LWDA offers comprehensive instruction in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, West African, Salsa, Modern/Contemporary, and Urbanity (Hip-Hop). Each class integrates technical training with historical and cultural study, ensuring students understand the origins, traditions, and social impact of each dance form.
Nestled within our Organization's overall offerings is our LWDA Rules of Healthy Practice© (ROHP) Nutrition Education Program. This Program focuses on the part of our Mission where we work to eradicate childhood and adolescent obesity, through Ingredient Literacy, Caloric Balance, and education on the healthiest choices possible for a lifestyle of wellness; both physically and mentally. Many of the families we serve are unaware of the names of additives, harmful chemicals and artificial ingredients, that often go unnoticed in snacks and meals. We are creating a positive ripple effect that reaches the Dancer's Families, and inevitably, causes the health of entire communities to increase, promoting lifelong positive decision making and accountability.
At LWDA students, staff, parents and communities work together to inspire each other as well as learn from each other. We teach our students accountability through learning by example. There are many ways we convey the power of sharing and carrying compassion. LWDA plans Service Learning projects for our students so that they can become aware of, and active participants in building hope, prosperity and accountability in their communities. These projects include:
Exciting Field Trips are provided to our students at least twice per season, tying in pertinent curriculum facets, awesome collaborations, and FUN!!
Guest Artists are invited into our space, to share crucial professional experience with our Dancers, that they can use for their career journey. They may share their own personal experience, or resources that can be immediately used for their technique or career track.
At least once per year, LWDA Dancers embark on a Tour around their local city to perform at schools, youth facilities, professional venues or even neighboring city venues, in order to inspire the next generations and gain valuable performance experience.
